Why do you consider yourself qualified to be judge?
My ability to analyze, interpret and apply the law. My commitment to fairness, impartiality, and integrity.
What is it about our criminal justice system that inspires you?
The fact that you're innocent until proven guilty so a decision isn't made until all of the facts are presented. Each party gets an equal opportunity to lay out their case and present their version of the facts.
What about our current criminal justice system do you believe needs to be reformed?
The mass incarceration that occurs in the US.
As a judge, what would your sentencing philosophy be?
I would need to abide by sentencing guidelines; however, I believe that justice can be balanced with compassion. As such, I would need to consider the totality of the circumstances.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night thinking about a case and wishing you had handled something differently? If so, please describe one situation.
I'm thinking about one termination that I lost that I wished the evidence had been presented in a different manner.
Who are your role models and why?
My parents because of their lifelong commitment to service to others.
What is your favorite book, movie, or tv show of all time and why did it speak to you so much?
The Matrix because it spoke to people's ability to create their own destiny.
