What has been the general nature of your practice?
Commercial litigation and Healthcare law with substantial focus on investigating fraud and ause
Why do you consider yourself qualified to be judge?
I have in my life experience and professional career as an attorney, developed a well rounded and balanced view of the profession of law, the dynamics of parties to litigation, the role of law enforcement , prosecution and defense of the accused. First and foremost I would bring to the Court the unquestioned commitment and ability to serve the public without fear of favor.
What is it about our criminal justice system that inspires you?
When the Court vindicates to all the parties, jurors and the public that there is, on an everyday basis, honest and fair justice can be accomplished.
What about our current criminal justice system do you believe needs to be reformed?
More resources need to be allocated to support defendants during incarceration and upon release to address the root causes of criminal conduct ( such as behavioral health, life skills and education) to give reentry candidates a real second chance upon paying their debt to society.
As a judge, what would your sentencing philosophy be?
My polestar is to adjudicate every matter based upon the law without fear of favor and an appreciation of the humanity of the defendant and the real work impact of crimes on the victims their families and our community.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night thinking about a case and wishing you had handled something differently? If so, please describe one situation.
As a professional, an essential quality is informed decisiveness. Having said that every action should be and opportunity to learn and grow. Over time the power of experience and reflection has given me a more measured view my role as an advocate and a practitioner of genuine humility and civility. Who are your role models and why?
My dad, the late President Judge of the Commonwealth Court for his compassion and unstoppable drive to get to the heart of disputes and in so doing reach a just result. My mom the late Rosemary Crumlish for her heartfelt belief in the goodness of people and the use of self effacing humor in staying grounded.
What is your favorite book, movie, or tv show of all time and why did it speak to you so much?
Young Men and Fire by Norman Maclean. I showed that even in life and death moments true leadership requires not only skill but the ability develop relationships and consensus.
